OUR MISSION
The Sun House house is run by Sun Community Service, which is a 501c3 nonprofit, dedicated to helping people reclaim their lives.
Sun’s Mission is to embrace homeless people who have mental illness wherever they are in life, and to support them to make a home.
Our vision is that all homeless people severe behavioral health needs have the resources and support they
need to live meaningful and fulfilling lives.
Our Beliefs
1. All people, regardless of what they have done or what they do, deserve a home.
2. Long-lasting change is more likely to happen in an environment that is as similar to a person’s hopes for permanent housing as possible.
3. Long-lasting change is more likely to happen in a warm, homelike environment rather than an environment based on the medical model.
4. Long-lasting change is largely the result of a person’s belief that they can change, and this belief is encouraged when
the people around them also believe they can change.
5.Sun House staff strive to be non-judgmental, non-confrontational, and non-adversarial.
6.We strive to use people-first language in our written and verbal communication.
7. Because negative consequences have more harmful effects than positive effects over time, we strive to prevent the use of negative consequences.
8.We assume good intentions lie behind all behavior.
9.We follow best practices and current research.
